# Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is one of the strongest translational settings for WFA.

It combines robust preclinical synergy data, direct cancer stem cell relevance, and an active human trial landscape.

### Why ovarian cancer is such a good fit

A central problem in ovarian cancer is persistence of stem-like, treatment-resistant cell populations after chemotherapy. WFA repeatedly looks relevant in exactly that space.

It does not just add generic cytotoxicity. It appears to correct part of the stem-cell enrichment problem that platinum therapy can worsen.

### Cell data

WFA alone and in combination with cisplatin has reduced CSC-enriched populations marked by `CD44`, `CD24`, `CD34`, `CD117`, and `Oct4` in ovarian models.

It also suppresses `Notch1/Hes1/Hey1` signalling, which is closely tied to CSC self-renewal. That matters because cisplatin can move this pathway in the opposite direction.

This makes the combination mechanistically attractive rather than simply additive.

### Animal data

In orthotopic ovarian tumour models, WFA plus cisplatin produced major tumour-growth reduction and strong suppression of metastasis. Work in `ALDH1+` CSC-enriched tumours also showed inhibition of spheroid formation.

A separate line of work suggests WFA may help address ovarian cancer-associated cachexia, including skeletal muscle wasting. That is an unusual additional angle and may matter clinically if it translates.

### Human data

The most advanced current human study is an ovarian cancer trial combining Ashwagandha extract with liposomal doxorubicin.

That is an important translational step, but it still does not provide purified-WFA efficacy data.

### Clinical setting assessment

Ovarian cancer is likely the most clinically advanced WFA setting right now.

The reason is not only the active trial. It is also the underlying biology. CSC depletion, platinum resistance relevance, and metastasis control all fit the disease well.

### Bottom line

Ovarian cancer is one of the strongest near-term areas to watch for clinically meaningful WFA translation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://myhealingcommunity.gitbook.io/myhealingcommunity-docs/natural-medicines/withaferin-a-wfa-in-oncology/wfa-evidence-by-cancer-type/ovarian-cancer.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
