# NRF2 Impact

### NRF2 impact: activator

Curcumin is a well-characterised activator of the Nrf2 pathway.

In normal cells, this can be beneficial.

* Activates Nrf2/HO-1/NQO1 antioxidant defence pathways
* Upregulates phase II detoxification enzymes
* Supports cytoprotection in healthy tissue

### Important caution

Nrf2 is not always straightforward in cancer biology.

Some tumours use high Nrf2 activity as a survival mechanism. In those contexts, strong Nrf2 activation may be less desirable, especially around treatment.

That does not make curcumin inappropriate. It does mean tumour biology and timing matter.

### Practical takeaway

Curcumin's Nrf2 activity is one reason for its favourable safety profile. It is also one reason clinicians may want to individualise timing and combinations in active treatment settings.

# Agent Instructions: Querying This Documentation

If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://myhealingcommunity.gitbook.io/myhealingcommunity-docs/natural-medicines/curcumin-in-oncology/anticancer-mechanisms/nrf2-impact.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
