# β-Glucanase Enzymes

β-glucanase is the biofilm-breaking layer in this protocol.

### The biofilm problem

Fungi often protect themselves inside β-1,3-glucan-rich biofilms.

That matrix can:

* hide fungal cells from immune detection
* reduce drug penetration
* make infections much more stubborn

### How β-glucanase helps

β-glucanase specifically cleaves β-1,3-linked glucan chains.

In practical terms, it helps collapse the scaffold that holds the biofilm together.

### Supporting evidence

Studies highlighted here show:

* stronger fluconazole activity when β-glucanase is added
* near-elimination of established catheter biofilms in some models
* better amphotericin B performance when combined with enzyme support
* disruption even in mixed bacterial-fungal biofilms

### Dosing and product notes

**Suggested activity target:** 250–300 BGU per dose for mature biofilms.

**Suggested protocol:** 300 BGU twice daily.

**Example product:** Direct Health Zygest Powder, with 300 BGU per serving if label-verified.

### Timing

Take on an empty stomach.

Keep enzyme doses at least 4 hours away from medicinal mushrooms or other β-glucan supplements so the enzymes target biofilm rather than the supplement.

### Watch-outs

* loose stools can happen early as debris clears
* start lower if the gut is very sensitive
* increase water
* use binders to help capture released debris

### Maximising results

1. dose strongly enough for mature biofilm
2. combine with laminarin and antifungal medication
3. allow several days for mature biofilms to fragment
4. adjust dose based on tolerance
