# Laminarin

Laminarin is the “turn down the alarm” layer in this protocol.

It is the β-glucan found in Modifilan seaweed extract.

### What laminarin is

Laminarin, or laminaran, is a bioactive polysaccharide extracted from brown seaweed.

### How it works

Laminarin binds the Dectin-1 receptor on immune cells such as macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells.

In this protocol, the key point is that it can occupy Dectin-1 without strongly activating it the way pathogenic fungal β-glucans do.

### The practical idea

Think of it as a “do not disturb” sign on an overactive alarm.

Other antifungal pathways can still work through receptors such as TLR2, Dectin-2, complement, and the mannose receptor.

### What may change downstream

The worksheet links laminarin with:

* lower oxidative stress
* less glutathione drain
* lower ATF4 survival signalling
* better mitochondrial efficiency
* better shift from survival mode toward repair mode

### Why this matters

The goal is not immunosuppression.

The goal is to remove an overstimulating signal that helps pathogens persist while still leaving antifungal defence routes available.

### Research notes from the worksheet

The worksheet highlights:

* mouse infection models showing less runaway inflammation and tissue damage
* colorectal-cancer research where blocking Dectin-1 reduced tumour growth
* immune-support findings involving dendritic-cell maturation, T-cell activity, and NK-cell function

### Dosing and product notes

**Suggested range:** 4–6 capsules daily, roughly 700–1,050 mg laminarin per day.

**Suggested product:** Modifilan seaweed extract.

**Timing:** split doses across the day.

**Cycling:** four weeks on, one week off.

**Special caution:** pause laminarin 48 hours before radioactive iodine scans if needed.

### Safety note

Seaweed products can matter in iodine-sensitive contexts.

Review that with your practitioner if iodine is relevant to your case.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://myhealingcommunity.gitbook.io/myhealingcommunity-docs/fungal-pathogens/anti-fungal-protocol-building-support/laminarin.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
