# Laminarin Laminarin is the “turn down the alarm” layer in this protocol. It is the β-glucan found in Modifilan seaweed extract. ### What laminarin is Laminarin, or laminaran, is a bioactive polysaccharide extracted from brown seaweed. ### How it works Laminarin binds the Dectin-1 receptor on immune cells such as macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells. In this protocol, the key point is that it can occupy Dectin-1 without strongly activating it the way pathogenic fungal β-glucans do. ### The practical idea Think of it as a “do not disturb” sign on an overactive alarm.
