Research-Validated Senolytic Compounds by Mechanism
Note: The following categorization is based on published research mechanisms. Product names and availability through MCS Formulas are listed for convenience only. All therapeutic decisions should be made in consultation with qualified healthcare providers.
Use the category headings to scan by mechanism.
Use the compound headings to compare options within each group.
Category 1: BCL-2/BCL-xL Anti-Apoptotic Pathway Inhibitors
Mechanism: These are the best-validated natural senolytics in current research. Senescent cells over-express BCL-2 family proteins (BCL-2, BCL-xL, BCL-W) to resist apoptosis — these compounds block those survival shields and force dormant cancer cells into apoptosis.
Fisetin (liposomal, 150 mg) ⭐ Highest priority
The most extensively validated natural senolytic — comparable in animal studies to pharmaceutical agents like navitoclax. Selectively induces apoptosis in senescent cells via BCL-xL inhibition. Currently in Phase II clinical trial specifically for breast cancer survivors post-chemotherapy to address TIS.
Available as: Fisetin Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Quercetin (with Bromelain, 400 mg) ⭐ Core senolytic
One of the first identified natural senolytics (the D+Q combination). Acts on multiple BCL-2 family pro-survival pathways in senescent cells; also well-studied combined with dasatinib in research settings. Bromelain adds anti-inflammatory synergy.
Available as: Quercetin & Bromelain at MCS Formulas
Apigenin (liposomal, 200 mg)
Upregulates pro-apoptotic Bax and downregulates BCL-2/Mcl-1 in cancer cells, shifting the balance toward apoptosis. Synergises with BCL-2 inhibitors (ABT-263 class) in colorectal cancer models — effectively amplifying their senolytic action.
Available as: Apigenin Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Luteolin (liposomal, 150 mg)
A flavone closely related to apigenin with overlapping BCL-2 family modulation and SASP suppression. Acts on NF-κB (a SASP driver) and induces mitochondria-dependent apoptosis in senescent/cancer cells.
Available as: Luteolin Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Category 2: ROS-Mediated Senolytics — Oxidative Stress Exploitation
Mechanism: Senescent cancer cells often have elevated baseline ROS and depleted antioxidant reserves. These compounds exploit that vulnerability by further raising ROS to lethal levels — a threshold that normal cells don't cross.
Piperlongumine (liposomal, 40 mg) ⭐ Core senolytic
One of the original validated senolytics. Kills senescent cells primarily through ROS elevation and glutathione depletion. The effect is reversed by NAC, confirming the ROS mechanism as central. Liposomal form is preferred for bioavailability.
Available as: Piperlongumine Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Piperlongumine (whole herb source, 500 mg)
The natural whole-herb source of piperlongumine — a budget alternative or adjunct to the concentrated liposomal form. Lower active compound concentration.
Available as: Long Pepper at MCS Formulas
Baicalein (liposomal, 200 mg)
Induces apoptosis in colon cancer cells via MAPK ERK/p38 signalling, and separately drives cancer cell senescence via the baicalin/telomerase route. The dual apoptotic + senescence-induction profile is unique in this category.
Available as: Baicalein Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Withaferin A (liposomal) ⭐ Cancer stem cell (CSC) specialist
Particularly important for dormancy because cancer stem cells (CSCs) are the most likely dormant population to re-emerge. Withaferin A preferentially kills CSCs over bulk tumour cells, via CXCR4/STAT3/IL-6 axis disruption — pathways that govern stemness and immune evasion. Combines well with conventional therapy.
Available as: Withaferin Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Category 3: mTOR/AMPK Pathway Senolytics — Senescence Conversion Blockers
Mechanism: These agents block "geroconversion" — the process by which cell cycle arrest deepens into full irreversible senescence and SASP production — by inhibiting mTOR and activating AMPK. They reduce the production of new senescent cells and can eliminate existing ones.
Berberine (liposomal or standard, 450 mg) ⭐
Operates as an mTOR inhibitor that suppresses geroconversion, reduces p16/p21 senescence markers, and promotes apoptosis in senescent cancer cells via BCL-2/Bax modulation. Also confirmed as having direct senolytic effects in UV-damaged fibroblast models. Liposomal form preferred for absorption.
Deep dive: Berberine in Oncology
Available as: Berberine Pro Liposomal or Berberine Pure at MCS Formulas
EGCG (80% extract, 400 mg or green tea extract) ⭐
Acts as a multi-pronged senolytic: inhibits mTOR, suppresses BCL-2 accumulation in senescent cells, modulates SASP, and promotes apoptosis via the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway. One of the most evidence-rich natural compounds in this entire category.
Deep dive: EGCG in Oncology
Available as: EGCG 80% or Super Green Tea Extract at MCS Formulas
Curcumin C3 Complex (liposomal) ⭐
Listed explicitly as a natural senolytic in the PMC discovery literature. Inhibits BCL-2 and NF-κB (a major SASP transcription factor), and inhibits mTOR. EGCG + curcumin together show synergistic BCL-2 inhibition. Liposomal form is critical for bioavailability.
Deep dive: Curcumin in Oncology
Available as: Curcumin C3 Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Category 4: SASP Suppressors / Senomorphics — Microenvironment Cleaners
Mechanism: These don't primarily kill senescent cells but powerfully suppress the SASP inflammatory output — reducing the pro-tumorigenic signals that senescent cells broadcast to their neighbours. Critical for controlling dormancy-to-proliferation re-awakening.
Polydatin (liposomal, 60 caps)
Trans-resveratrol precursor with superior bioavailability. Induces apoptosis via cytochrome c release and caspase-3 activation, and inhibits EMT (epithelial-mesenchymal transition) — directly targeting mechanisms of dormancy escape and metastatic re-emergence.
Deep dive: Polydatin in Oncology
Available as: Polydatin Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Trans-Resveratrol (liposomal, 250 mg)
Targets senescent cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the tumour microenvironment, reduces SASP factors, and disrupts pro-tumorigenic signalling. Particularly relevant in breast cancer stroma interactions.
Available as: Trans Resveratrol Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Boswellia AKBA (liposomal)
AKBA inhibits NF-κB — one of the master regulators of SASP production. Reduces inflammatory cytokine output from senescent cells in the microenvironment without needing to directly kill them.
Deep dive: Boswellia in Oncology
Available as: Boswellia MEGA AKBA Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Urolithin A (60 capsules)
Evidence clarifies this is primarily senomorphic (suppresses SASP/IL-1β/MCP-1 output) rather than directly senolytic. However it induces cancer cell senescence (a pro-senescence strategy to arrest cancer proliferation) and inhibits CSC properties, clonogenic growth, and invasion in colorectal cancer models. Best understood as a SASP modulator + mitophagy activator.
Deep dive: Urolithin A in Oncology
Available as: Urolithin A at MCS Formulas
Category 5: Supporting / Adjunct Roles
These have relevant activity but are better described as supporting the senolytic strategy rather than leading it.
Spermidine (liposomal, 60 caps)
Autophagy activator (mitophagy); helps clear damaged/senescent cellular debris. Synergistic with direct senolytics.
Available as: Spermidine Pro Liposomal at MCS Formulas
Silymarin/Milk Thistle (550 mg)
Silymarin has BCL-2 modulatory and NF-κB suppression activity; supports liver clearance during senolytic cell die-off (critical for managing senolytic cell burden).
Deep dive: Silymarin / Milk Thistle in Oncology
Available as: Milk Thistle-Silymarin at MCS Formulas
Vitamin D3 + K2 (liquid drops)
Vitamin D3 modulates senescent cell immune surveillance; low D3 is correlated with impaired clearance of senescent cells by NK cells.
Available as: Vitamin D3 & K2 Liquid Drops at MCS Formulas
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine / NAC (600 mg)
Important caveat: NAC reverses the ROS-mediated activity of piperlongumine, so should not be co-administered with Category 2 agents. Useful at separate times for general oxidative load management.
Available as: N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine at MCS Formulas

Important Timing Consideration
NAC and ROS-dependent senolytics: If piperlongumine or other ROS-dependent agents (Category 2) are included in a protocol, NAC should be time-separated by at least 12 hours, as it directly reverses their senolytic mechanism.
Understanding Senolytics in Cancer Dormancy Management
This is educational content which represents current peer-reviewed research on senolytic compounds and their mechanisms. This information is provided for educational purposes and does not constitute medical advice. Product availability and formulations are listed for reference only.
What "Senolytic" Means in a Cancer Dormancy Context
After therapy, a population of cancer cells can enter therapy-induced senescence (TIS) — a dormant, non-dividing state that is not dead. These cells survive via upregulated pro-survival (anti-apoptotic) pathways and secrete a SASP (Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype) — a cocktail of inflammatory cytokines and growth factors that if left unchecked can remodel the tumour microenvironment, fuel inflammation, and eventually allow dormant cells to re-emerge. A senolytic stack pulsed periodically selectively eliminates these senescent or dormant cells, while senomorphics dampen the SASP without killing the cells. Both have roles in a cancer dormancy post-treatment management strategy. See the Senescence Resource Hub for a deeper dive into this topic.

International tariffs
US customers concerned about tariffs affecting MCS Formulas orders? Don't be.
Daniel, the founder of MCS Formulas, recently shared several points to keep this clear for US customers.
Product prices have remained unchanged.
MCS Formulas has not increased product prices. They remain the same as they were a month ago and even five years ago.
In early April 2025, the tariff value appeared separately during checkout and on invoices to show that MCS Formulas was covering that cost. That created confusion, so the line was later removed from invoices and checkout displays.
Customers can confirm this by comparing past invoices with current pricing.
Trump's tariff is already included in the listed prices.
All prices on the website are final. What you see is what you pay, minus the abbey5 discount at checkout.
There are no hidden customs or courier fees added later. Customers only pay the amount shown at checkout.
A similar issue arose in the UK after Brexit. MCS addressed that successfully in early 2021.
Daniel shared these points to keep pricing transparent and remove unnecessary stress for customers.
