About Abbey the Founder
Background, lived experience, and community work behind My Healing Community
Abbey Mitchell is the founder of My Healing Community, co-creator of the Breast Cancer Pathways Worksheet, lead admin, and founder of The Healing Cancer Study Support Group.
Her work is grounded in lived experience, long-term self-education, and a practical commitment to helping others navigate cancer with more clarity, support, and agency.
Lived experience
Abbey's cancer journey began in 2014 with a diagnosis of lobular breast cancer at age 43.
That diagnosis led to a left mastectomy, followed by a period away from oncology.
In 2017, she learned the cancer had metastasised to nine areas in her bones.
That marked the beginning of a deep and sustained engagement with integrative healing.
From that point, she immersed herself in new daily habits, dietary protocols, movement, stillness, and the psychological and emotional work of healing.
She also focused on understanding hormonal drivers, inflammatory pathways, and research-backed ways to support the body alongside conventional care.
This broad approach was followed by a long period with no evidence of disease.
A scan in mid-2025 later revealed a new lesion on one vertebra.
She is now once again working with a carefully researched, holistic healing protocol, with greater attention to supporting her immune system.
Abbey's April 2026 Update:
Both my scans this year showed that the big spot that had taken up residence in my spine at T6 and was treated with radiotherapy is now no longer active on the PET scans. At the same time, the scans did pick up signs that the cancer has become more active in some other bones in the pelvis and spine, with a few new or more active spots in the left back of the pelvis, the left sitting bone, the right hip socket, the right shoulder blade, and the T12 vertebra. I’m happy with my new oncologist. He is organising a bone biopsy because the last one he can really rely on is from way back in 2014, and he wants to double‑check that the cancer is still ER+ given this progression has happened while I’ve been on letrozole. He has prescribed Palbociclib and Fulvestrant, and he’s also happy to arrange an Omico extensive cfDNA panel for me after the bone biopsy. I’ve gone ahead and ordered a smaller breast‑focused cfDNA panel myself to be done before I start these new treatments, so we have as much information as possible. I’m feeling positive — no matter what comes next. Abbey
What this work has become
Since 2019, Abbey has acted as a compassionate guide for people navigating cancer.
Her role is not to replace medical care.
It is to connect people with useful research, practical information, and thoughtful support across conventional, integrative, and complementary approaches.
That includes helping people think more clearly about the physical, psychological, and spiritual realities of a diagnosis.
Day to day, she facilitates a worldwide community where members can share experiences, ask better questions, and learn from one another.
The aim is to help people become more informed and more active participants in their own healing process.
